Over the years, I've been able to tell which products work and which don't for my skin type. I have combination oily skin which means that I get oily in my T zone (forehead, nose and chin) and dry patches on my cheeks. Here are some of my favorite products that will get you through even the harshest of winters.
Face wash
Most of the time, face wash isn't the first thing that comes to mind when dealing with dry skin. However, some face washes will dry out your skin and strip it from its moisture, especially the ones designed for acne prone skin containing some kind of acid like salicylic acid. Recently, I've been loving the Drunk Elephant Beste No 9 Jelly Cleanser. It's great at removing make-up and keeping your skin supple and soft after you wash it off. For the lazy gals or for those who don't wear a lot of makeup, the Bioderma Sensibio Micellar Water is great at removing the excess dirt but doesn't contain any alcohol or parabens that tend to dry out the skin.
After face wash comes serum. When dealing with dry skin, you absolutely want to use a hydrating serum because that will allow you to hydrate the deeper tissues of your skin. You can say hello to hydrated skin for dayzzzz! I've been using the Drunk Elephant B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Gel for the last few months and it does wonders on my dry and dull winter skin. The Jouviance Hydractiv Serum contains bark extract which boosts your natural hyaluronic acid production and makes sure your skin is hydrated both on the surface and in the deeper dermis. Lastly, I have to mention the Neutrogena Hydro Boost serum as I've already finished a whole bottle myself and think it's such a great drugstore alternative. It's packed with hyaluronic acid as well as multivitamin beads.
Moisturizer
A good hydrating moisturizer is key when taking care of dry skin and keeping it 100 all day long. I always use the Kiehl's Ultra Facial Moisturizer during the winter. This product is made with squalane which is a botanical lipid that is easily absorbed in the skin and restores its natural moisture balance which makes it ideal if you're experiencing dryness. Like I mentioned earlier, the Jouviance Hydractiv line is catered for people with dry skin. Their Moisturizing Comfort Cream is in a gel-cream formula which makes it lightweight and perfect for those with combination skin.
Mask
I'm one of those people that used to never put masks on. I used to find them so time consuming and kind of a hassle. Despite my love-hate relationship with masks, I've discovered a new passion for leave-on masks because you can just slap them on and call it a night! The Lierac Hydragenist Moisturizing Rescue Mask and the Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask are both amazing hydrating masks. The Lierac mask is not meant to be kept overnight but I apply a thin layer and wash off my face in the morning. Your skin will literally feel like a baby's bum the next day. You're welcome.
Facial Oil
I'm a big fan of face oils. They will literally save your skin this winter. When I feel like I need an extra oomph of hydration and glow, I'll put on the Ordinary 100% Plant-Derived Squalane Oil. It goes on smoothly and absorbs beautifully into your skin leaving you with the best glow and plumpness in the morning. Another oil I'm obsessed with is the Drunk Elephant Virgin Marula Luxury Oil. It's a rich and luxurious oil that I use sparingly but boy does it make you glow.
